Coming together for a “barn raising” is as old as America. Let’s harness that same spirit to build Herfurth Dog Park.

Barn Raising


Doggie Parents of the Communities of Rowlett, Sachse, Wylie, N. Garland & Murphy Come Together to Construct a Local Dog Park.

Sachse Park Pals is seeking community volunteers to join us for a Barn Raising to construct Herfurth Dog Park. The community building project will be conducted on a Saturday in February, with an anticipated Herfurth  Dog Park opening day of early to mid March.  All Fence Raising Crew Volunteers will be recognized on the Herfurth Dog Park Opening Day Shirts.

Sachse Park Pals will:

·        Purchase Material and have delivered to site

·        Rent heavy equipment necessary for construction of the dog park

·        File necessary permits with City

·        Provide lunch and refreshments for volunteer on the scheduled the community work day

Each Team to be assigned approximately 150 LF of Fencing for Installation. Detailed Directions to be provided.

Team 1 & 2: 

Post Installation:

  1. Stakes the Fence Area
  2. Marks Ground for Post
  3. Drill Post Holes using Auger (Including Waste Stations) (Rowlett Parks will do this)
  4. Measure and Mark all Post to be used.
  5. Align Post in Holes and fill with concrete
  6. Level & Plumb Post
  7. Attach tension bands to post
  8. Attach Gate Hardware to post
  9. Attach Post Caps
  10. Attach Rails


Lunch & Refreshment Crew:  Responsibilities include providing lunch & Refreshments for the Volunteer work force.

Team 3 – Team 14:

Each Team will install approximately 150 LF of Fencing.


Mesh Installation: 

1.       Unroll the mesh and install a tension bar

2.       Attach the tension bar to the posts

3.       Stretch the mesh

4.       Tighten the mesh

5.       Insert a tension bar in the Mesh

6.       Attach the tension bar to the Post

7.       Tie the Fence to the Rail

8.       Run tension wire through the bottom loops of mesh

Gates & Waste Stations:

1.       Attach the Gates to the Post

2.       Attached Waste Stations to Post
